Announcing New Compostable Packaging for Select High Lawn Specialty Products
Last year, in the midst of the many wonderful changes afoot here at High Lawn, we began having important conversations about the sustainability of our product packaging.
In 2019, our Farmstead Cheese and Cultured Ghee ventures, as well as experimentations in the kitchen with new and improved recipes for our line of Premium Ice Creams, inspired us to see just how much more special and unique we could make these artisanal goodies — not only in flavor and appearance, but with the health of our planet in mind.
We thought, what a great opportunity to start exploring ways where we could further minimize our carbon footprint and do our part as a small local business to set an example that reflects our values: to provide only the highest quality, farm-fresh dairy products to our cherished community that not only taste great, but that one can feel good about consuming.
And with that, we’re proud to introduce our brand new line of Sweet Cream Butters wrapped in 100% Compost-Friendly Packaging!
Available In 3 flavors: Lightly Salted, Sweet cream Unsalted, and cultured (with or without salt.)
These 8-ounce butter bars are hand-shaped with care, and wrapped in 100% certified compostable packaging. So you’re not only doing your tastebuds a great service, your purchase is benefiting the environment too. Everybody wins!
This month, we’ve also launched new packaging for our Cultured Ghee! In addition to being packaged in a reusable/recyclable glass jar, it now comes with an extra ounce (for the same great price) and sports a compostable label too. The security seals will be compostable as soon as we run out of our current stock.

More about the packaging
This new line of butter bars are wrapped in 2 layers consisting of a greaseproof Zero liner and Natural Kraft paper.
Even the label’s (for the butters & ghee), which were joyfully provided by our new buddies over at Pure Labels, are safe for the environment! The label itself is created from a bioplastic that’s made from tree pulp, with a proprietary adhesive they developed which has been approved as a Certified Compostable Adhesive, and then finally the design’s printed on with compostable ink.
We’re super thankful we discovered this company! It’s been an enlightening experience learning about all of the companies out there who are committed to making a difference by offering eco-friendly alternatives to the industry standard for packaging materials.
In closing
In these times of increasing awareness of the harmful effects of global warming and pollution, those of us making an earnest effort to begin walking the path of conscious consumption understand that changing our habits takes time. There’s a lot to learn. Also, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing — every change we make, small or big, makes a difference. And that’s what it’s all about: waste reduction.
Every day, we at High Lawn are researching ways that we can bring more sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices into the way we run our company. We feel privileged to have been in business for nearly 100 years (can you believe it?) and we want to keep coming up with more ways to keep our customers happy and support our community and planet!
